1. Warriors Program (by invitation)

Martial arts are codified systems and traditions of combat practices for self-defence; military and law enforcement applications; competition; and physical, mental, and spiritual development.

Our Regular Training Program focuses on traditional martial arts Taekwondo.

Warriors Program aim to develop and train athletes for Poomsae and Sparring competitions at State, National and International competitions. WARRIORS POOMSAE TEAM and WARRIORS SPARRING TEAM are our competition teams competing in Poomsae and Sparring.

Overall, students in Warriors Program demonstrate a higher level of skills, confidence and resilience, many of whom compete at a multitude of competitions.

2. Benefits of Competitions

Training for and participating in competitions require huge commitment from athletes, parents and instructors and is challenging. However, the journey can be enriching and rewarding. The opportunity for personal growth and development is greater where athletes learn courage and composure under pressure as well as dedication to personal goals and achievements.

The purpose of training is to prepare to be physically, mentally, technically, tactically and every other way ready to meet and overcome the demands of every competitive situation you will face.  Winning in competitions means performing with technical excellence under fatigue, under pressure and doing it repeatedly.

Competitions in Taekwondo hold a significant educational value for participants. They are arenas where skills are tested, resilience is built, and the spirit of continuous improvement is embodied. Through the lens of competition, Taekwondo competitors experience firsthand the importance of dedication, preparation, and the pursuit of excellence.

Participating in competitions :
  • prepare kids for wins and losses later in adult life
  • develop important life skills like resilience, perseverance and tenacity
  • learn from failures and be motivated to work harder, circumventing the desire to quit when things get tough
  • understand it's not always the best that are successful, but those who work hard and persevere that are the real winners in the end
  • enjoy the journey
  • impressive addition to resume

Testing and refining technical skills
Competitions provide a unique platform to showcase and test their technical skills against peers. This environment pushes competitors to refine their techniques, strategies, and physical conditioning. The dynamic and unpredictable nature of competitions necessitates a high level of adaptability and quick thinking, attributes that are crucial in martial arts and beneficial in daily life.

Building resilience and coping with pressure
The pressure and intensity of competition can be immense, but they serve as valuable lessons in resilience. Competitors learn to manage stress, face their fears, and recover from setbacks, fostering a mindset that views challenges as opportunities for growth. This resilience developed on the mat translates to other areas of life, preparing individuals to navigate difficulties with grace.

Embracing the spirit of continuous improvement
In Taekwondo, every competition is seen as an opportunity to learn and grow. Win or lose, competitors are encouraged to reflect on their performances, identify areas for improvement, and set goals for future training. This cycle of preparation, competition, and reflection instils a lifelong habit of continuous improvement and a commitment to personal excellence.

Character Building aspect of competitions
Beyond the development of technical skills, Taekwondo competitions play a crucial role in shaping the character of competitors. The values of respect, humility, and perseverance are not just taught but are lived experiences in the competitive arena.

Fostering respect and sportsmanship
Respect is a fundamental principle in Taekwondo, extending from the respect for one’s instructor and opponents to the courtesy shown to referees and spectators. Competitions reinforce this value, as competitors learn to win with humility and lose with grace, recognising the effort and skill of their opponents. This mutual respect fosters a sense of community and sportsmanship that is essential in martial arts.

Cultivating humility and self-awareness
Competitions offer humbling experiences that are instrumental in cultivating humility and self-awareness. They remind competitors that there is always more to learn and room for improvement. This humility, coupled with the feedback received from coaches, guides competitors in their personal and martial arts development.

Encouraging perseverance and determination
The path to success in Taekwondo competitions is fraught with challenges, requiring perseverance and determination. Competitors learn to set goals, dedicate themselves to rigorous training, and persist through adversity. This determination, developed through the pursuit of competition success, instils a strong work ethic and the belief that perseverance can overcome obstacles.

Strengthening the Taekwondo community
Competitions bring together competitors from diverse backgrounds, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose within the Taekwondo community. These events offer opportunities for networking, friendship, and cultural exchange, strengthening the bonds between participants and promoting the martial art’s values on a wider scale.

3. Development Pathways

Warriors’ development pathways apply to all Warriors, current and new, regardless of belt level when you join Warriors Team.

It is up to each individual Warrior to set and pursue your personal goals, whether you compete only in local competitions or take it further to international championships. Regardless of the level you participate in, each experience and achievement can be rewarding and enriching and is a valuable personal development.

Consistent training and competition experience are equally important and do not substitute one another. No amount of static training can totally prepare you for the dynamic competition environment without competition experience. On the other hand, insufficient training impedes your progress that becomes increasingly crucial as you move to higher age division, higher belt level or higher level competitions.

Starting Warriors Training
It is strongly recommended to start Warriors training as early as possible when invited. New Warriors generally take 3-6 months to learn sparring drills and improve fitness for the first competition.

Starting Competitions
We also recommend that Warriors start competitions early to gain as much competition experience. Holding back competition to higher age division and belt level will be disadvantageous against opponents who start at lower belt levels with more competition experiences.

Warriors are strongly encouraged to take every opportunity to participate in as many competitions as possible to gain experience regardless of belt level.

We emphasize the importance of good performances and attitude at each competition, regardless of the results. A poor performance with a win against a weaker opponent is not necessarily a better competitor than one who fights well and loses to a stronger opponent. Each competition, regardless of level of competition and results should be viewed as a valuable learning experience.

It ranks high in the areas of Endurance, Strength, Power, Speed, Agility, Flexibility, Nerve, Durability, Hand-eye Coordination and Analytical Aptitude.

Poomsae is about achieving body memory to perfecting techniques through discipline in training. Without sufficient practice, it is not possible to perform well at competitions.

Attitude :
All Warriors must do your best at training to benefit from the training. Warriors must take every training seriously and not disrupt other Warriors who want to train and improve.

8. Benchmark Competitions (Black Belts Cadets & above)
The World Championships - Sparring are worldwide biennial Championship held around the world. The World Senior Championship WC, started in 1973, is the highest benchmark event ranked after the Olympics. The World Junior Championship (WJC) started in 1996 for 14-17 years old. In 2013, the World Cadet Championship (WCC) was introduced to develop younger athletes 12-14 years old and prepare them for the higher-level competitions as they progress with age and experience. The age group for WJC was changed to 15-17 then.

Past World Championship Representations - Sparring :
Master Bryanna : World Junior Championship 2010 Tijuana
Master Benecia : World Junior Championship 2014 Taipei
Josh : World Cadet Championship 2025 Fujairah
William : World Cadet Championship 2025 Fujairah

These World Championship Selection events are highly competitive where many athletes aspire and strive to qualify on the Australian team to the prestigious World Championship events. Preparation for World Championship Selection starts 18-24 months prior to the event, not few months or weeks before.

Recommendations :
  • Set your goal and work towards it.
  • Put in 100% at training.
  • Listen, learn and improve.
  • Regular training and commitment are critical for continual improvement. Breaks from training will set you back.
  • Compete in all available competitions (local, interstate and International Open) to gain as much experience as possible. There are only a few competitions a year, not sufficient to get the competition experience necessary for the high-level World Championship events.
  • Holiday Programs to get additional intensive training over longer hours.
  • Personal Training for personalized instructions to work on your strengths and weaknesses.
