I’ve been practicing Taekwondo for nine years, and it has become a huge part of my life. When I look back at where I started, I realise how much I’ve grown, not just in skill but as a person. Throughout this journey, I’ve been guided by four amazing masters. Master Bryan, Master Joyce, Master Bennecia and Master Bryanna have each helped me improve in many different ways.

Master Brian taught me the importance of patience and discipline. He always reminded me to slow down, focus and get the technique right before execution.  Due to his guidance, I was able to make my movements sharper, cleaner and much more in control.  This made me perform more better and with more confidence.  The self defence learnt was also real and practical and can be used in real life situations.

Master Joyce was with me from the beginning. She taught me the basics, the correct stances, and the right way to move. Learning everything properly from the start helped me so much as I moved up belts, because I always had a strong foundation to fall back on.

Master Benecia helped me build strength and stamina. Whenever I felt tired, she pushed me to keep going. She made sure I could last through long classes and sparring rounds.

Master Bryanna helped me improve my strikes, blocks and accuracy. She showed me how to move faster and more confidently, and she always explained things clearly when I didn’t understand something.

Taekwondo has taught me more than just techniques. It has taught me focus, respect and determination. It has shown me how to stay calm in difficult situations and how to push through challenges even when my body wasn’t capable to do the actions that the other kids of my age, were able to do.  Training with others has also helped me grow. The people around me feel like a second family because we support each other, celebrate each other’s wins and learn from each other’s mistakes.

After nine years, I’ve become stronger, more focused and more disciplined. Taekwondo isn’t just about self-defence. It’s about the people, the effort, the memories and the family I’ve made. I feel part of a growing family.
