I started my Taekwondo journey when I was 14, I joined a club near my school with my friend. I stayed at my first club for 2 years and due to the club relocation, I stopped.
Then I started Taekwondo at another club when I was at university. But due to my first club not being WT standard, I must start with a white belt again. And I stopped at red belt when I graduated from university.
When Mia started learning Taekwondo in 2022, I didn’t plan to restart my Taekwondo journey again. But due to my thyroid cancer, I have to tracheal resection surgery in 2023. After the surgery I want to do some sport that helps me to keep fit. While sending Mia to do training and seeing some parents are also doing training, I thought I should start Taekwondo again and finish my dream to get a black belt.
It was difficult for my body to do sports again especially after the surgery, I am easy to get shortness of breath. But after half a year, my breath problem improved, and my body is getting stronger. Another challenge is to remember the poomsae patterns. But after joining the poomsae class, the body muscle memory will help me to remember the patterns.
Thank you masters for patiently teaching and fixing all my skills from old bad habits.
This year is my 50th birthday, this is a birthday present I gave to myself. I use 35 years to achieve my black belt, it is never too late to complete your dream, just believe yourself.
