Hello masters, parents, family and friends. I am honoured to stand here today to share a few words about my taekwondo journey since I was a first black belt to today.

 

Ever since I got my black belt, I remember feeling joy and relief after my grading. It was like the scariest thing that I’ve done. I thought I learnt and achieved almost everything, but no, there was so much more that I had to learn. Advanced kicks, hand techniques and self-defences are all just the start of being a black belt. That got me thinking, how much more is there to learn to be a true black belt?

 

During the time as a poom 1 black belt, I discovered loads that I didn’t know. I gained and built on many skills that have shaped the way I live now. Leadership, responsibility and much more that I can’t even think of have helped me develop as a person. The competitions that I have competed in as a black belt has been a real breathtaking experience. I’ve so far competed for almost 2 years as a black belt and after many competitions, I felt a huge change in the environment compared to my colour belt days. After these experiences, its shown me not just the skill level, but the maturity and adult like skills that black belts have, is much more than colour belts that are the same age.

 

At this point of time, if I pass this grading, it’s not about the new belt or new rank that I will get, it was a step closer to a bigger and deeper commitment to this sport. I not only found a bigger connection with those here around me but found a family that I’ve grew into because of this long awaiting journey.

 

I would like to thank you all here for being with me through this journey. This is a big, giant milestone for me and I am proud of coming this far. I’m excited to see another journey that awaits me and will continue to train hard, build on and show leader qualities and respect to those around me.
