I still remember the day I started my first trial class. The hall was big and I was amazed looking at older kids sparring. My parents had wanted me and my younger brother to go to martial arts classes to protect ourselves from bullies and to build self confidence. The masters were nice and supportive and I felt right at home. That's when I knew that Taekwondo was right for me. The gradings came thick and fast, but it was manageable. Learning the first pattern was a challenge for me. I just couldn't get past step 8. This was when I realised that I would have to put in time and effort outside of the dojang. So that's what I did, with consistent practice I managed to pass my grading. Then, in 2023, I started the sparring program. It was then that I had to devote more time to Taekwondo. I practiced twice a week, and eventually, 3 times a week to prepare for the Sydney Taekwondo Festival. In that competition I won my first battle but lost the second. I was still proud of that because I tried my best and I beat my first opponent. Soon after, I joined the Poomsae classes. In my first poomsae competition, I only had one opponent and I beat him. It was a very good experience as it helped improve my confidence and self-esteem.

I want to thank all the Masters, especially Master Joyce because they have helped me in my taekwondo journey. They have helped achieve what I have and helped me become what I am today.
